Chester County Criminal Court System
The county seat of Chester County is in West Chester, Pennsylvania, which is the home of the Chester County Judicial Center. The Chester County Judicial Center houses many facets of the Chester County Court System including but not limited to the Chester County Common Plea Judges, departments including the Clerk of Courts, District Attorney’s Office and Adult Probation Department, and Magisterial District Judge, Mark Bruno.
Traffic and non criminal cases are initially handled at the Magisterial District Court level, where a non jury trial may be heard before the Chester County Magisterial District Judge. Misdemeanor and Felony Criminal matters are first scheduled before one of the Chester County Magisterial District Judge’s for a preliminary hearing. The purpose of the preliminary hearing is determined that the Commonwealth has a prima facie of evidence to proceed to trial. Once a matter is bound for trial, it is transferred to the Chester County Judicial Center in West Chester Pennsylvania, where the defendant is arraigned and scheduled for trial.
